Interview by Muhammad Maaz bin Adnan – Student, River Oaks Academy, Karachi

Childhood days

I don’t think I was a very good child. My parents tell me that I was obsessed with television which was the only source of entertainment in those days. I started to play video games when I was like 13 or 14.

Career choice in youth

When I was young, I wanted to be a doctor.

Teenagehood

When I was young, I was thinking about different things, not practicing Islam though. I was only reading my Salah and Quran, which was not enough. My thinking was still about the Dunya. I was confused in my teenage years – not about religion but about life and money. I saw people around me having Haram relationships with girlfriends and doing Haram things, such as stealing and doing fraud. I was worried about the things people were doing around me.

Thoughts about teenagers today

I am very worried about the teenagers of today, because the probability to do Haram has increased by one million percent. Nowadays, everything can be hidden in a mobile phone. We should build relationships with the youth to show them that there is another way.

Favourite book

How to Approach and Understand the Quran by Jamaal Al-Din Zarabozo.

Favourite indoor family game

Articulate. It is a board game which tests your skills of how well you can explain something to the other person. You have to explain the word without saying that word.

Favourite food

Biryani.

Message to Muslim parents

They should invest their time and not finances in their children. Children value your presence more than your presents!

Message to the readers

This age is a superpower age. Your superpower is your memory. Do not waste your memory – memorize the Deen and the Quran as much as you can, and make sure you make fruitful use of the youthful years of your life.
