Allah (swt) is Al-Haqq, the only reality, the One Who is the truth. Since He is the only one and true God, he has every right to be worshipped.
Mentions in the Quran
“Then they, His servants are returned to Allah, their true Lord. Unquestionably, His is the judgement, and He is the swiftest of accountants.” (Al-Anam 6:62)
“That is because Allah is the Truth and because He gives life to the dead and because He is over all things competent.” (Al-Hajj 22:6)
“So exalted is Allah, the Sovereign, the Truth; there is no deity except Him, Lord of the Noble Throne.” (Al-Muminoon 23:116)
Meanings and Denotations of Allah’s (swt) Name Al-Haqq
- His Existence, Oneness, Lordship, and Divinity are true.
- His Names are true, and His attributes are true, because their meanings are true, unlike the creation. Someone may be called a Sultan, while he is actually a servant, or he might be described as generous, while he is stingy, or he might be called courageous, yet he is a coward.
- His universal (Kawni) will is true. What Allah (swt) wills – happens, and what He does not will – does not happen.
- His legislative (Shari) will is true, because Allah (swt) is far from oppression and tyranny.
- His saying is true, because it is void of any lying or falsehood.
- His Messengers who guide the people are true.
- His Book is true, without increase or decrease.
- His Promise is true – the doers of good will go to Paradise, and the doers of evil will go to Hell.
- He created the heavens and the earth with truth to examine and test humans. Almighty Allah (swt) did not create the heavens, the earth and the humans without purpose.
- Almighty Allah (swt) says the truth, decrees with truth, and abolishes falsehood.
- In the whole universe, there is only one Truth, namely Allah (swt), All Mighty, Alone. Therefore, everything that brings you near to Allah (swt) is true, and everything that takes you away from Him is false. That is why you must know Allah (swt), and you must know and practice His religion. Allah (swt) makes true believers witness with their own eyes that falsehood may stand for quite a long time, but then it collapses like a spider’s web or like an improperly built wall. Allah (swt) addresses this in the Quran: “And say, ‘Truth has come, and falsehood has departed, indeed, is falsehood [by nature] ever bound to depart.’” (Al-Isra 17:81)
How Can You Live by This Name?
- Be truthful and advise others to speak the truth. Al-Haqq Himself instructs us: “And do not mix the truth with falsehood or conceal the truth while you know [it].” (Al-Baqarah 2:42) The Prophet (sa), who was known as as-Sadiq al-Ameen (the truthful and the trustworthy), is our true example! Do you sometimes hold back a truthful advice, because you do not want to hurt someone’s feelings? Think a step further – a truthful advice given in a wise way is the right of your fellow Muslim brother or sister!
- Recall His promise in times of hardship. We know that the promises of Al-Haqq are true. Standing up for the truth may bring hardship, but the promise of ease is true; verily, after every hardship, there comes ease.
- Ask Al-Haqq. It is not sufficient to just recognize the truth; it is necessary you act upon it. The same goes for evil: you cannot just recognize evil – you must refrain from it. For a believer, knowledge comes with action. Reflect upon this beautiful Dua: “O Allah! Enable me to see the truth as truth and give me the ability to follow it. And enable me to see the falsehood as false and give me the ability to refrain from it.”
- Do not be deceived. Shaitan and his helpers are always on the lookout to deceive us. We should seek the help of Al-Haqq to live by and die upon the truth and make us of those who advise others to the truth. O Allah, make us reflect upon the universe and ourselves and witness the reality of Paradise, Ameen!
