Ask hibakidz

My friend’s mom recently passed away and I had no words to console her. How should we offer condolences to the family of the deceased?

The Prophet (sa) said: “No believer consoles his brother at the time of calamity but that Allah, glory be to him, will dress him with noble garments on the Day of Resurrection.” (Ibn Majah)

It is not easy to find ways to console someone, who has lost a relative. However, we can learn from the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (sa), what can be helpful in such situation:

(1) Sending food to the family and extending help. It is Sunnah to send food to the family.

When the news of the death of Jafar ibn Abi Talib (tram) came to his family, the Prophet (sa) said to Fatima (rtaf): “Prepare food for the family of Jafar (rtam), for there has come to them what has preoccupied them.” (Abu Dawud)
