My brother, though playful and helpful, has a loose tongue. He tells my teachers, friends and even my parents things about me that make me feel ashamed and hurts my feelings. How can I stop him from embarrassing me?

t is Allah’s (swt) blessing to have parents and sibling around you. Sometimes, we feel hurt when our family members do not realize our feelings and adopt an incorrect habit.

First of all, assess your own behaviour. Have you ever uttered something about your brother in public? It might be a slip of the tongue, but your brother might have thought that it’s normal to do this.

To highlight that it is not okay to disclose secrets in public, find a friend, a cousin or a sibling in your family. Act out this story in front of your brother to give him your message without hurting him.

You may also explain your feelings by pin pointing something that upsets your brother. Let him know that his habit of revealing secrets upsets you equally.
