Muhammad Bin Ibrahim At Tuwejri in his book titled “Fiqh ul Quloob” (“Understanding of the Hearts”) beautifully presents Allah’s (swt) numerous and wonderful creations in turns. The objective is to draw attention from concrete realities of this world to the spiritual and abstract reality, and, hence, for man to find his role and purpose of life.
Water – a Creation of Allah (swt)
“… And we have made from water every living thing. Will they not believe?” (Al-Anbiya 21:30)
The Brave Little Seed
“He it is Who sends down water (rain) from the sky from it you drink and from it grows the vegetation on which you send your cattle to pasture. With it He causes to grow for you the crops, the olives, the date palms, the grapes and every kind of fruit. Verily, in this is indeed an evident proof and a manifest sign for people who give thought.” (An-Nahl 16:10-11)
For a tiny seed buried underneath layers of soil, it is a courageous task to uncover and remove those layers – to unveil itself emerging from the darkness into the world of light above; to move upward defying gravity; to sprout and come to life from a dried up seed.
Who does all of that? Mother nature? It is Allah (swt) Al-Khaliq (the Creator) Who orders this seed to perform what it does. This tiny seed obeys its Creator. And it is Allah (swt), Who facilitates its life by nurturing it, until the seed reaches its destiny: either to perish and return to the soil or bloom and give fruit, until it is put to death by its Lord (swt).
That is the mankind’s destiny as well. Allah (swt) creates us for the purpose of obeying Him (become Muteey) and being beneficial to His creation (become Nafay). And one day, when He will grant us death, we will be brought out again for resurrection to stand before Him.
Water Everywhere
“And it is He Who sends the winds as heralds of glad tidings, going before His Mercy (rain) and We send down pure water from the sky, That We may give life thereby to a dead land and We give to drink thereof many of the cattle and men that We had created. And indeed We have distributed it (rain or water) amongst them in order that they may remember the Grace of Allah, but most men (refuse to accept the Truth or Faith and) accept nothing but disbelief or ingratitude.” (Al-Furqan 25:48-50)
Creation of water in itself is a sign of the Creator. Observe how Allah (swt) has created water in the form of little droplets that are vapours floating in the air. The same vapours ascend by His command to form huge sailing clouds. After collecting this water in the clouds, Allah (swt) makes these huge floating seas to move in the sky, directing them to perform their tasks. The clouds burst and rain falls by His due measurement. And Allah (swt), Al-Aleem (the Knower), knows the precise quantity of the raindrops falling on the earth. How many will sink into the earth just deep enough to be accessed later in time by mankind. How many to be collected in the lakes and rivers for immediate use. How many to fall into the oceans and become part of the water cycle. How many destined to become ice, snow or freeze into glaciers.
Approximately 4.6 billion years old Earth has seen these phenomenons happening with exact precision for nurturing human life. Yet, still humans today wonder: is there a God? Allah (swt) states in the Quran:
“The vegetation of a good land comes forth (easily) by the Permission of its Lord, and that which is bad, brings forth nothing but a little with difficulty. Thus do We explain variously the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) for a people who give thanks.” (Al-Araf 7:58)
