Are you one of them? Assess yourself and find out what qualities have been granted to you by the Ar-Rahman’s Taufiq. Which traits do you need to develop next by Allah’s (swt) will to attain the status of men and women of Ar-Rahman?
- They walk gently
“And the servants of the Most Merciful are those, who walk upon the earth easily…” (Al-Furqan 25:63)
Ar-Rahman describes the gait of His exclusive men and women. They walk with grace, dignity and humility. Their body posture shows no sign of arrogance, lethargy or ostentation. Why did Allah (swt) mention this particularly? What difference does it make if anyone hobbles, wobbles or strikes his heels with pride? Ibad-ur-Rahman are worshippers from head to toe.
- They offer Salam to the ignorant
“… and when the ignorant address them (harshly), they say (words of) peace.” (Al-Furqan 25:63)
The popular culture celebrates tit-for-tat speech. In fact, it is considered a skill to outdo somebody with your forceful talk (virtual or in person). Ibad-ur-Rahman, on the contrary, are dear to Allah (swt) because they do not engage in ill reactionary conversation when the ignorant address them. Nobody can shake their calm demeanor, as they are mindful that Allah (swt) is watching and hearing them.
- They pray Qiyam-ul-Lail
“And those who spend (part of) the night to their Lord prostrating and standing (in prayer).” (Al-Furqan 25:64)
We all long to be with our beloved. The men and women of Allah (swt) observe worship at night in solitude with their Creator. It is prescribed as a remedy for restless souls disturbed by the inciting of our Nafs. They recognize their Lord, hence, it is their desire to pray and have a heart to heart with Allah (swt) at a time free from distractions, noise and duties.
- They invoke Allah (swt) to save them from Hellfire
“And those who say, ‘Our Lord, avert from us the punishment of Hell. Indeed, its punishment is ever adhering.’ ” (Al-Furqan 25:65)
Allah (swt) created the mankind for Jannah. He guided them through His Divine Scripture and honourable prophets. He facilitated them through angels, and the entire creation is at their service. But the mankind choose to disobey, opting for Hell instead in utter delusion. Ibad-ur-Rahman are very clear regarding their end. They call upon Allah’s (swt) mercy for salvation and stay steadfast.
- They spend moderately
“And (they are) those who, when they spend, do so not excessively or sparingly but are ever, between that, (justly) moderate.” (Al-Furqan 25:67)
This is a great skill and a beneficial mindset. The men and women of Ar-Rahman are neither miserly nor splurge. They are moderates by thinking and action. Hence, they have no fear of poverty, when they need to spend on self or others. Similarly, they are not wasters of resources but keep the money in circulation, where it needs to be invested, spent or lent for ease.
- They never commit Shirk
“And those who do not invoke with Allah another deity…” (Al-Furqan 25:68)
Ibad-ur-Rahman’s loyalty stays with Allah (swt) solely. No matter how big of a trial hits them, they stay firm in their faith, calling upon Him. For them there is no other Maula (helper). This is a unique quality, as most people begin to breed doubts in their minds in turbulent times and encourage them to start looking elsewhere for help and deliverance.
- They never kill anyone without a cause
“… or kill the soul which Allah has forbidden (to be killed) except by right …” (Al-Furqan 25:68)
The blood and honour of a Muslim are sacred. Likewise, the life of a disbeliever is not Halal without a just cause (Qisas). Ibad-ur-Rahman have always guarded lives to uphold Allah’s (swt) supreme justice in every century, be it in the times of Prophet (sa) or today. They fear the Creator and respect His creation.
- They never commit Zina
“…and do not commit unlawful sexual intercourse. And whoever should do that will meet a penalty.” (Al-Furqan 25:68)
Ibad-ur-Rahman guard their chastity and protect their lineage. They also aspire to be under Allah’s (swt) Throne on the Day of Judgement, when there will be no other shade but His. This will be a mercy from their Rabb for refusing the temptations of Zina in the world.
- They do not involve in idle or false talk
“And (they are) those who do not testify to falsehood, and when they pass near ill speech, they pass by with dignity.” (Al-Furqan 25:72)
These men and women of Allah (swt) have a pure intent which they keep assessing and reassessing every day to ensure that they never go off track. Their road to success is paved by truth – Ibad-ur-Rahman are very cautious about what they speak and listen to. They do not abuse their faculties by using them in disobedience to Allah (swt).
I pray that you become Ibad-ur-Rahman, a member of this exclusive set of people who are associated with Allah (swt) and mentioned with love in the Quran by Ar-Rahman. Ameen.
