Prophet Muhammad (sa) said: “… Then He (Allah) will call out to them with a voice that those far off will hear just as those nearby will hear: ‘I am the King. I am the Supreme Judge…’” (Al-Haakim. Sheikh Al-Baanee classified it as Hasan ‘good’)
Ad Dayyaan is Allah’s (swt) beautiful name that has occurred in the Prophet’s (sa) Sunnah. It means that Allah (swt) is the Irresistible and All-Powerful Judge and Ruler who rewards or punishes people according to their deeds.
Who is Ad Dayyaan?
The glorious name of Allah (swt) Ad Dayyaan, has 6 different meanings in terms of His attributes:
1, The Obeyed Master
2, The Dominator
3, The Ruler
4, The Supreme Judge
5, The One Who will take Account
6, The One Who will offer Recompense
How should we worship Allah Ad Dayyaan after knowing Him?
- Understand that we are bound by only Allah’s (swt) law in the universe
Allah (swt) has granted laws to His Prophets right from Adam (as) until Muhammad (as) who was the seal of prophet hood. Humanity was guided through these laws and divine scriptures in every era to stay on the right path and reach Jannah by Allah’s (swt) mercy. Apparently this was a very simple plan to be followed for ultimate success in Dunya and the Aakhirah. But mankind deviated and continues to do so by transgressing Allah’s (swt) laws, forgetting about them, changing them, introducing their own preferred ways and following the Shaitan. Simply because man was given free will to choose and earn Allah’s (swt) pleasure. Other creations such as the moon, stars, sun, mountains, animals, angels, etc. submit, serve and worship Allah (swt) without their own free will. But then Jannah is not for them either. Its for every Bashar (man) who trusts Ad Dayyaan and obeys His Master willfully.
Allah (swt) stated: “…This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favour upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion…” (Al Maidah 5:3)
- Any other Deen or lifestyle other than Islam will be rejected
If people never question Allah’s (swt) physical laws of the universe set in place for millions of years, why do they reject the spiritual laws or laws governing their lives?
People have dauntlessly chosen countless lifestyles and religions for themselves in the world today. Some of these religions also have worldly benefits but their deficiencies are hidden. Whose knowledge can be trusted more God’s or human’s? Even as a student one follows the prescribed curriculum, the marking scheme, etc. Nobody dares to opt for anything else because they know they will fail otherwise. How can we be so careless, neglectful and relaxed about our life choices impacting our permanent afterlife then? It is imperative for every person to learn about Islam and its legislation that impacts him in terms of Ibadah (worship), maamlaat (relationships), Rizq (means of earning), etc.
Allah (swt) states: “So is it other than the religion of Allah they desire, while to Him have submitted (all) those within the heavens and earth, willingly or by compulsion and to Him they will be returned?” (Al Imran 3:83)
- Only Allah (swt) will Judge and Reward perfectly on the Day of Resurrection
Allah Ad Dayyaan will judge with absolute knowledge and perfect authority between people on the day of judgment. In the world justice is hardly ever served. But in the Aakhirah, there will be no false evidence, testimony, coercion, confusion or concealment. Haqq will be declared openly unlike the corrupt and faulty legal and judicial systems of the world where the oppressed are never heard or compensated for their loss. Even at a personal or micro level in families multiple times people get away with murder casting aspersions on others and faking innocence. Allah (swt) commands us to have Taqwa (God consciousness) to deal with others and be very sensitive about other’s rights and our own self-reform.
Allah (swt) states: “So today no soul will be wronged at all, and you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do.” (Yasin 36:54)
- Be very certain who the oppressed and the oppressor is
When Prophet Muhammad (sa) sent Muadh (rta) to Yemen, he advised: “Be afraid, from the curse of the oppressed as there is no screen between his invocation and Allah.” (Bukhari)
One might wonder, then why do we see abuse, a doomed end or brutalities around the world and even in our homes happening unstopped? The stay in the world is but a day as compared to the eternity approaching us fast. Allah (swt) decides the time, place and decree of the oppressor. It will surely come to him.
In another narration by Abu Hurairah (rta), the Prophet (sa) said: “Whoever has oppressed another person concerning his reputation or anything else, he should beg him to forgive him before the day of resurrection when there will be no money (to compensate for wrong deeds), but if he has good deeds, those good deeds will be taken from him according to his oppression which he has done, and if he has no good deeds, the sins of the oppressed person will be loaded on him.” (Bukhari)
By default, we all feel oppressed today by someone. It could be our parents, spouse, children, friends, employer, relatives, even strangers, etc. We believe that we are innocent, others are toxic and overstep their boundaries every now and then.
The challenge is that we do not have any scales or devices to measure the level and state of oppression. Only Allah Al Haseeb, The One Who will take our account knows our inner most intentions, thoughts, deeds, etc. Hence as a principle it is best to forgive others sincerely and stay an oppressed soul rather than become an oppressor unknowingly. Allah (swt) stands with the oppressed not the oppressor.
Also even if we know for certain that we have been abused by someone, how will we decide to avenge the abuser without crossing the line of injustice? The safest option is to forgive and move on leaving it to Allah (swt) to deal with and granting the best compensation to us.
- Take your account daily and prepare for your death while you are alive
What should we check ourselves for? Our heart and mind. What is our intention before any deed good or bad? Every choice made should only be for Allah (swt). Our worship must be according to the Quran and the Sunnah and not innovative or as per our desires. Our conduct must be at the level of excellence matching Islam’s Halal and Haraam to build a peaceful heart, home, organizations and society at large.
Tragically oppression is not just growing globally but also in Muslim communities and homes. At the macro level war against the Palestinians and many others is right in our face. Such regimes in Islamic countries that do not represent their people but turn the country into banana republics are also a stark example. Mercilessness from our economic to emotional dealings are rampant. Homes have been struck by impatience, personal desires, anger, jealousy, rancor, revenge, arrogance, etc.
One Ayat to warn us all who are getting away with alliances and lies:
“And all of them are coming to Him on the Day of Resurrection alone.” (Maryam 19:95)
