Travel Diary: Latvia

January 10, 2018 /Posted byHibakidz - Content Team / 2041

Latvia is a country in Northern Europe, which is officially known as the Republic of Latvia. It is one of three countries referred to as the “Baltic States“. The other Baltic States countries are Estonia and Lithuania.

  1. The indigenous people of Latvia are known as Latvians and Livs. It is said that Latvians are very proud of their country and they are humorous, too. Though the majority of Latvians know how to speak Russian, Latvians are a separate ethnic group with their own language – Latvian.
  2. The Latvian flag is one of the oldest in the world, dating all the way back to the 13th It is said to have originated when a Latvian chief was wrapped in a white sheet after being wounded in battle and the sides of the sheet became stained with blood, while the central stripe remained white, and the stained sheet was used as a battle flag.
  3. Latvia’s internet speeds are among the fastest in the world, averaging 13.8MB/s, compared to 11.6 in the UK, 11.9 in the US, and so on. It has the world’s fourth fastest internet with over 800 free connection points in the capital alone!
