Anas bin Malik (rtam) narrated that he, along with some Companions, was sitting with the Prophet (saw). He said: “A man from among the residents of Jannah will now appear before you.” Thereafter, a man from the Ansar appeared, carrying his shoes in his left hand with ablution water dripping from his beard. This happened for three consecutive days.
On the third day, Abdullah bin Amr bin Al-Aas (rtam) followed the Ansari and requested to stay with him on a made-up pretext for three days. Abdullah bin Amr (rtam) closely observed the Ansari for three days to find out, what special act of worship had made him among the inhabitants of Jannah. However, he did not discover anything that was out of the ordinary. Finally, he told the entire story to the Ansari and asked him, if he was doing something extra, which had earned him Jannah.
The Ansari said: “I do not do anything out of the ordinary. However, I do not hold any grudge against any Muslim. Also, I do not envy any Muslim for whatever good Allah (swt) has granted him.”
Abdullah bin Amr (rtam) said: “Then, this is your special quality that has taken you to the highest level. We do not have the strength to adopt it.”
