Planting Hope for the Future

As the country celebrates the 75th Independence Day, its youth engages in a historic activity to make us immensely proud. On  12th of August, 12,500 junior boys and girls in Gujranwala planted over 50,000 trees in a single minute setting a new world record.

Under Prime Minister Imran Khan’s 10 Billion Tree Tsunami Campaign, students stood in a 14-kilometre long queue to plant trees. The  environmentally conscious drive was conducted by the Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAMP) for Climate Change, Mr Malik Amin Aslam. In the particular area between Rawalpindi bypass and Chand Ka Qila bypass, 47 drones recorded the entire campaign. Within 60 seconds precisely, 52,040 saplings were planted by enthusiastic students, supportive teachers and the laudable local government. According to the SAMP, the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Gujranwala will take care of the plants till they grow into proper trees.

Representatives of the Guinness World Records were present while the drive was underway. It is attributed to be the greatest plantation drive anywhere around the globe. Pakistan outstripped Bhutan which held the previous record of planting approximately 49,000 saplings back in 2015. Furthermore, it also surpassed the prior Indian record of planting 37,000 saplings in one minute.

The effort is truly commendable and serves as a source of inspiration for all and sundry throughout the nation. Such drives must be held across the country. Together let’s make PM Imran Khan’s tree planting campaign a success, let’s fight climate change!
