Allah (swt) describes His Majesty in the Quran as: “And to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And ever is Allah, of all things encompassing.” (Al Baqarah 41:54)
Al-Muheet, is one of Allah’s (swt) beautiful names mentioned in the Quran eight times, that introduces our Creator to us. Had Allah (swt) not guided us, we would not have known how He fully surrounds everything He has created.
Who is Al-Muheet?
He is the All-Pervading. Nobody, no force or technology can overcome Him. He encompasses the physical seen world and the unseen spiritual realm too. Nothing escapes His sight, hearing, knowledge, dominion and authority. The term ‘encompassing’ has the following meanings:
- Al-Muheet has absolute control over His creation.
- He is entirely aware and possesses perfect knowledge about His creation.
- Allah Al-Muheet has the power to destroy His disobedient creation.
Al-Muheet’s absolute control
With the rise and fall of nations in history, when we witness the disbelievers gain a temporary upper hand, it might come as a test of faith for us. Believers might fall into doubts that the tyrants are beyond anyone’s control. The life and duration of their injustices might seem endless too.
Allah Al-Muheet negates this and comforts us: “But Allah is encompassing of the disbelievers.” (Al Baqarah 2:19)
Al-Muheet’s perfect knowledge
He is the one from Whom nothing is hidden or absent. His knowledge surrounds everything and everyone. Allah Al-Muheet has maintained a strict count of everything. Humans wrongly assume about themselves when they believe that they are fully aware of everything. That is why they fall into arrogance and commit errors. We will never know the entire past, present or future happenings. Al-Muheet is aware of our intentions, state of the heart, thoughts, worries and deeds.
Allah (swt) states: “They conceal (their evil intentions and deeds) from the people, but they cannot conceal (them) from Allah, and He is with them (in His knowledge) when they spend the night in such as He does not accept of speech. And ever is Allah, of what they do, encompassing.” (An Nisa 4:108)
Al-Muheet’s power
The disbelievers’ doubts about Allah (swt) and His creation plan, will not save them. Their meeting with Allah-Al-Muheet is certain. He has encompassed every single move they are about to make. Firaun had armies and Thamud had power. They were all granted to them by Allah (swt), which they tried to use against Allah (swt), His Deen (Islam) and His Auliyah (friends). What happened?
Allah (swt) states: “Has there reached you the story of the soldiers – [those of] Pharoah and Thamud? But they who disbelieve are in (persistent) denial, while Allah encompasses them from behind.” (Al-Buruj 85:17-20)
Al-Muheet’s benevolence
We are all also surrounded by Al-Muheet’s care and mercy. He is the One, Who removes evil and grants peace and healing.
He is also the One Who will bring the wrong doers to the book and punish them severely on the day of judgment. This should settle us emotionally when we are experiencing hardships and oppression at the hands of other disobedient creation in this world.
Allah states: “And Allah is encompassing of what they do.” (Al Anfal 8:47)
How to worship Allah Al-Muheet
- This name and attribute should instill a sense of awe in us instead of being impressed or afraid of today’s false super powers.
- We must feel shy to sin. Every evil deed of ours is encompassed. Hence we must never let our sins surround us and ask Allah (swt) for forgiveness instantly.
- It should make us more conscious in our public as well as private life.
- We must remove hypocrisy from our life as Al-Muheet knows us inside out.
- We must never usurp anyone else’s right, as we are surrounded by Al-Muheet’s Ilm (knowledge).
- Do not be worried about the unknown or anxious about the future. We will only know, what Allah (swt) allows us to know, anyway. This is in our best interest.
- Al-Muheet is All-Pervading. People can only hurt us as much as destined for us in our Taqdeer (destiny), the outcome of which turns out good when we keep believing in Allah (swt). Allah (swt) will deal with them.
- Our invocations can be answered by Al-Muheet when we make Dua to Him
