Flying paper planes around the living room, Ali and Hassan were pretending to be Pakistan air force pilots shooting down enemy planes, when Mom called them for dinner.
“Did you hear the loud thunderclaps from the jets flying last night?” Hassan asked everyone, as he sat down on the table.
“May Allah (swt) keep our Sherdil pilots safe and protect those who protect our country, while we are all asleep in our homes,” said Dadi, who had just entered the room. When she heard Hassan’s question, she was reminded of the freedom struggle she had witnessed as a child.
“Please call your father for dinner,” Mom asked Ali.
“Did you all hear the news about the fearless and valiant pilot of Pakistan air force, who made our nation proud by shooting down enemy’s fighter planes?” Dad asked excitedly, as he entered the room, for he had been following the news all day.
“Yes! And his name is also Hassan!” Hassan said smiling wide, while he helped Mom set the table.
“His full name is Hassan Mehmood Siddiqui, and he is from Karachi,” added Ali, as he also got up to help mom with the dishes.
“Would you boys like to know more about this brave young man, who made Pakistanis all over the world proud on 27th February 2019?” asked Dad.
Ali, Hassan and Omar could not control their excitement and started jumping on their seats. “Yes, of course we would!” replied all three together.
