Glasses for People with Cerebral Blindness

  • Can you imagine what it would be like to have normal looking eyes but not being able to see? This type of blindness is called cerebral blindness.
  • Cerebral blindness is the total or partial loss of vision in a normal-appearing eye caused by damage to the brain.
  • It is most common in babies and young children.
  • Mariam Al-Otaibi and Bedour Al-Maghrabi invented glasses for people with cerebral blindness to help them identify things around them.
  • The glasses draw a picture of the area around the person, analyze it through a mobile app and define it through spoken words, which are sent to the person’s ears through an earpiece. This way, even though you cannot see, the glasses speak to you and tell you in words what is happening around you.
  • Both inventors of these wonderful glasses received the second place during the 2015 British Invention Show and Awards.
