The Longest Non-stop Migration of Alaskan Bar-tailed Godwits

Covering astonishing 11,500 km, the longest non-stop bird migration in the world flies from Alaska to New Zealand non-stop for nine days and nights. Put yourself in this place and imagine the sun rising, the sun setting, the sun rising, the sun setting (nine times!)… but the bird is still flying. Rain storms, snow storms… but the bird is flying. Cities, oceans, deserts underneath… but the bird is flying. No food, no water, no sleep for nine days and nights! Scientists have discovered that the bird’s right half sleeps, while the left half is awake, and after a few hours, the left half sleeps and right half is awake. Scientists have no idea how this small bird is beating its wings for 11500 km flight nonstop.
